Hello,
It really depends on which Actor's Union you would like to join. If you're planning to join the SAG (Screen Actors Guild), here are the steps:
1. You must have proof that you have already worked in an SAG television, film or any other project before. The proof can be in the form of a paycheck stub or signed contract. The role you have played must be a principal role or a speaking role.
2. You can join SAG if you have worked as a background performer for a minimum of 3 consecutive or non-consecutive days in a project signed under SAG Agreement. Proof of employment can be in the form of original pay stubs or payroll printouts.
3. You may join if you are or were a paid member of the following affiliated unions for 1 year and have worked at least once as a principal performer:
AFTRA (American Federation of Television and Radio Artists)
AGMA (American Guild of Musical Artists)
ACTRA (Alliance of Canadian Cinema, Television and Radio Artists)
AGVA (American Guild of Variety Artists)
AEA (Actor's Equity Association)
Hope that helped!
Regards,
