Post    Post subject: Overweight Watch: Friends Eat More When Dining Together Reply with quote

"Overweight children and teenagers may eat more when they have a snack with an overweight friend rather than a thinner peer," reports a new study in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition:

"In a study of 9- to 15-year-olds, researchers found that all kids, regardless of their weight, tended to eat more when they had the chance to snack with a friend than when they were with a peer they did not know.

"But the biggest calorie intakes were seen when an overweight child snacked with an overweight friend."

But this pattern is not only prevalent among children because adults also display the same result - we tend to eat less with strangers because we become more self-conscious.

So for a healthy eating habit, try munching your snacks around people who are "not that overweight" and basically have healthy eating habit themselves. Or if you are on the overweight side, try snacking around people who are "not that close" to you.
