Bar Refaeli Tweets Against Skinny Models & Plastic Surgery

It must have been great to become Bar Refaeli. She’s not too thin. She has youthful and natural good looks. She sure has all the nerve in the world to criticize young skinny models and old women who try to stop time by plastic surgeries.

The Israeli supermodel has used the power of Twitter to talk about body image. Addressing her 15,241 followers/fans to date, she has ranted:

Sunday (August 29):
“Seriously… Plastic surgery is not helping your impact on young women or your looks! Some people are addicted to drugs and others addicted to alcohol. Me? I’m addicted to pomegranate juice”

Monday (August 30):
“I get so sad when I see 15 year old pale extremely skinny models at the agency looking all shaky and hungry… When will it end?!?!

Represented by One Management in New York City, Bar Refaeli’s tweets have been assumed by some gossip sites to refer to her very own agency. She might have personally witnessed and has been disgusted by the sight of skinny 15-year-olds in the agency who are starving to prepare for runway modeling gigs.

As to the supermodel’s criticism on women who are addicted to plastic surgeries, well, she might have encountered them everyday. And she hates what she is constantly seeing. (It would be great to hear her comment again on cosmetic surgery when she turn 40.)

Anyhow, Bar Refaeli is campaigning for a healthy lifestyle. Let’s drink (pomegranate juice) to that!

Lady Gaga’s Special Man: Jo Calderone From Sicily

Lady Gaga channels her masculine alter ego in the new cover of Vogue Hommes Japan. Meet Jo Calderone: the Italian mechanic from Palermo, Sicily.

“Jo Calderone: Too Cool To Care,” goes the introduction. Shot by Lady Gaga’s favorite photographer Nick Knight and styled by Lady Gaga’s very own stylist, Jo Calderone has tried very hard to introduce himself as another person. His interview inside the magazine has all the lies personal details to prove that he is not Lady Gaga:

WHERE ARE YOU FROM?
Palermo, Sicily

HOW WOULD YOU DESCRIBE WHAT YOU DO/YOUR OCCUPATION?
Mechanic for my dad’s business. This is the first time I’ve had my picture taken.

WHEN DID YOU DISCOVER YOU WANTED TO DO THIS?
Well, I always helped my dad at work, since I was a kid. I thought it would be fun to have my picture taken.

WHAT ARE YOUR AMBITIONS?
I’d love to own my own car shop, I have a bunch of my own ‘muscle’ cars. Ma
ybe if I take some more pictures I can afford it.

WHAT IS YOUR RELATIONSHIP TO LADY GAGA?
I met her at a shoot Nick Knight was doing. She’s fuckin beautiful, and funny, and interesting. I was a little nervous for Nick to start shooting. She said, “Don’t be baby, you were ‘born this way.’” I took her out af
ter. The rest is private

Had it not been for Jo Calderone’s Twitter feed that existed on the same day these shots began leaking, had it not been for Jo Calderone’s interaction with Lady Gaga’s bestfriend @PerezHilton on the Twitter feed, and had it not been for that prominent Lady Gaga nose that’s hard to cover-up – people might have believed that Jo Calderone is really not Lady Gaga. Nice try though.

Ford Models Will Search For Women In Exotic Countries

Upon the appointment of Paul Rowland for the reinvention of Ford Models, he then sets the mission to diversify the modeling agency.

The creator and owner of Women and Supreme Management has always wanted to spearhead the representation not only of classic but also of exotic beauties in different parts of the world.

He has already added the exotic beauties of Hannelore Knuts, Tao Okamoto, Anna Jagodzinska, Rose Cordero, and Hanne Gaby Odiele to the roster of atypical models in the agency who are not “young, white, and skinny” like Carmen Dell’Orefice, China Machado, and Crystal Renn. His search for the exotic beauties has also led him to open a scouting office in the Islam-swept region of North Africa.

“My vision is very different from Eileen Ford’s. My ideal legacy at Ford — and hopefully there will be one — would be to open up the idea of beauty not only being classic but being, you know, global. I’m just obsessed with finding these amazing creatures in all these exotic countries. I want to find girls in Egypt or Sri Lanka or India — all the places where people don’t look,” says Paul Rowland to T Magazine.

Facebook Ignores “The Social Network” Movie

Looks like Facebook will not be connecting and sharing with “The Social Network” movie after all. Mark Zuckerberg, the founder of the social networking site, does not the like movie about him.

“Honestly, I wish that when people try to do journalism or write stuff about Facebook, that they at least try to get it right,” says the 26-year-old billionaire during a July interview at the Computer History Museum in Mountain View, CA.

But what is really bothering Mark Zuckerberg in the film? Does he not like Jessie Eisenberg portraying his character? His co-founder may have the answer.

Chris Hughes tells the New York Times, “It’s crazy because all of a sudden Mark becomes this person who created Facebook to get girls or to gain power. That’s not what was going on. It was a little more boring and quotidian than that.”

Producer Scott Rudin has admitted that the filmmakers had made small changes based on Facebook feedback, but refused to make bigger ones the company asked for. “The Social Network” after all, is a movie about the differing stories told in two court cases. “There is no such thing as the truth,” he said.

Regardless that people should not expect the creation of an official fan page for the movie on Facebook, the early review for the film implies that it is interesting.

“This is very rich material for a movie on such timeless subjects as power and privilege. And such intrinsically 21st-century ones as the migration of society itself from the real to the virtual sphere-and David Fincher’s ‘The Social Network’ is big and brash and brilliant enough to encompass them all,” says Scott Foundas of the New York Film Festival.

Watch the official trailer of the film below!

“The Social Network” will premiere at the New York Film Festival on September 24 and opens nationwide on October 1.

Miss Mexico Wins Miss Universe 2010!

“We won, long live Mexico!” Miss Mexico has announced on her Facebook fan page.

Jimena Navarrete, 22 years old from Guadalajara, Mexico is the new Miss Universe. She has beaten 82 other contenders from different parts of the world in the 59th edition of the pageant held at the Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas, USA on August 23, 2010.

Jimena Navarrete has been modeling since she was 15. She has came to Miss Universe after winning for Miss Jalisco then Miss Mexico in the country’s Nuestra Belleza pageant.

Her sensibility equates with her outer beauty as she has impressed both the judges and the audience with her take on unsupervised Internet use and the role of the family.

Pageant judge Evan Lysacek, an Olympic gold-medal figure skater, has asked Miss Mexico about how she felt on people’s Internet usage. She has replied, “I do believe that Internet is an indispensable, necessary tool for the present time. We must be sure to teach them the values that we learned as a family.”

Jimena Navarrete has made it her top priority as the newly-crowned Miss Universe to promote her home country of Mexico. Wearing her hard-earned sash and sparkling tiara, she has said “Every country has the right to impose and enact their laws. But I tell you that all the Mexicans and the Latins that are living here in the United States are hardworking people – people who want to improve on their quality of life.”

Mexican President Felipe Calderon has also commended Miss Mexico’s victory as he said in a statement “Her triumph is a source of pride and satisfaction for all Mexicans, who see in her the fruits of perseverance.”

As the the newly-crowned Miss Universe, Jimena Navarrete receives an undisclosed salary, a luxury New York apartment with living expenses, one-year scholarship to the New York Film Academy with housing after her reign, plus jewelry, clothes and shoes fit befitting a beauty queen.

Rounding the top five are first runner-up Miss Jamaica Yendi Phillipps, second runner-up Miss Australia Jesinta Campbell, third runner-up Miss Ukraine Anna Poslavska, and fourth runner-up Miss Philippines Venus Raj.

Headline-grabbing Miss Haiti Sarodj Bertin, Miss Venezuela Marelisa Gibson, and Miss USA Rima Fakih have not made it to the top 15 finals.

Cameron Diaz Is Internet’s Most Dangerous Celebrity

If you are surfing the Internet for the leggy bombshell Cameron Diaz, you better be a risk-taker. Searching for her name will most likely lead you to sites loaded with malicious downloads and malware.

According to a recently released survey by McAfee, a software security company, searching for Cameron Diaz returns with a one-in-ten chance of landing on a risky site. Additionally, when “Cameron Diaz and screensavers” was searched, 19 percent of the sites were identified as containing malicious downloads. Thanks to her latest blockbuster movies, “Knight and Day” and “Shrek Forever After,” Cameron Diaz has won the hearts even of software criminals.

Her co-star on the “Knight and Day” flick, Tom Cruise, is ranked 8th in the survey. The recent buzz around his MTV Awards performance has also contributed to the risk. Malwares are also haters.

“Eat, Pray, Love… and Infect” might soon be credited to academy Award-winning actress Julia Roberts. With the release of her “Eat, Pray, Love” movie and for simply being America’s sweetheart, it is not surprising that a lot of people are interested to follow her life. Her popularity has been used by malware and virus makers to spread computer “diseases.” Searching for “Julia Roberts and downloads” results in a 20 percent chance of downloading a photo, wallpaper or other file infected with malware. The overall risk of searching for Julia Roberts is nine percent.

Jessica Biel who tops last year’s similar survey is still dangerous. She’s number three on the new list. Her on-off relationship with Justin Timberlake and her upcoming movie “The A-Team” has greatly contributed to her overall search risk of nine percent. Searching for “Jessica Biel and screensavers” returns with a 17 percent chance of landing on a risky site.

The complete list of top 10 celebrities with the highest percentages of risk are as follows:

1. Cameron Diaz
2. Julia Roberts
3. Jessica Biel
4. Gisele Bündchen
5. Brad Pitt
6. Adriana Lima
7. Jennifer Love Hewitt, Nicole Kidman
8. Tom Cruise
9. Heidi Klum, Penelope Cruz
10. Anna Paquin

Will the star’s marketability be affected by the risk attached to their name? Are fans being warned to not search for any of these celebrities? Uhm, not quiet.

McAfee’s spokesman is careful on tackling the matter: “We’re saying be aware of the broad use of their names, and know that criminals are looking for a way to social engineer you, and this is the type of attack they’ll use.”

BTW, Barack Obama and Sarah Palin are low on the list as they land the 49th and 50th spots respectively. Criminals are not so into politics these days.

Betty White Wins Emmy For Hosting

At 88, Betty White keeps grooving, blabbing and laughing to entertain her audience, making her worthy of highest awards like the Emmy. Her newest Emmy Award is for Best Guest Actress in a comedy series for hosting “Saturday Night Live.”

Her SNL gig last May 2010 has also earned her a record for the oldest person to guest-host the show. This is her fifth prime-time Emmy award, following her previous recognition for “The Mary Tyler Moore Show” and “The Golden Girls.”

As an actress, comedian, and former game show host, Betty White has already made it through more than 70 years in the industry.

And there is no stopping to this eternally youthful entertainer just yet. This year alone, she has already landed a role on the new TV Land sitcom “Hot in Cleveland,” has scored a Super Bowl commercial, and has played a mad librarian on ABC sitcom “The Middle.” She has also surprised thousands of youth at the 2010 MTV Awards when she booty-bumped with Sandra Bullock to the tune of Lil Jon’s Get Low.

Although Betty White has not been at the creative arts ceremony on Saturday to receive her award, this does not mean that the “Golden Girl” has grown tired of awards and nominations. She’s more likely saving her energy for many other gigs to come. Suffices to say, “The Betty White phenomenon keeps getting bigger.”

Sarodj Bertin: First Miss Haiti In 22 Years

Light-skinned Sarodj Bertin, 24, is the newly-crowned Miss Haiti who will compete in the Miss Universe pageant after 22 years.

She carries the legacy of former Miss Haiti Evelyn Miot who became the first black woman to reach the top five finalists position in the Miss Universe pageant in 1962.

Because of the catastrophic magnitude 7.0 Mw earthquake that has devastated the country last January, Sarodj Bertin’s participation in the 2010 Miss Universe pageant greatly commands attention. But the young beauty says there is more to Haiti than just poverty and tragedy.

And that “more” could be hope in life. If there is one special thing that Sarodj Bertin can represent her people except for external beauty, that would be hope. As a role model of hope, she has also survived a personal tragedy that she has experienced early in life.

She has witnessed her mother’s murder when she was nine years old. Her mother was a human rights advocate and social leader who was about to enter the presidential elections in 1995 when she was murdered. The traumatic event has led Sarodj Bertin to also become a lawyer.

Beauty-and-brain, as people say, Sarodj Bertin has also learned to speak four languages. The desire to represent the beauty of the Haitian people has made her joined the modest Miss Haiti contest that has been organized by Magali Febles, former director of Miss Puerto Rico.

She has made it through another test of perseverance and strength of will when, on her way to Las Vegas for the contest, she has lost her luggage along with all her pageant gowns, shoes, and accessories. Just like how other countries have supported Haiti during the tragic earthquake, her fellow contestants and supporters have loaned her replacement items in order to continue with the contest.

“It is a privilege and an honor. I need to let the world know about my country. I want to change what people think about Haiti. Yes, we have poverty, we are in the middle of a crisis, but we also have so many beautiful things to share,” says Sarodj Bertin of her participation in the pageant.

The Miss Universe 2010 pageant will inspire and stun the world on August 23 at the Mandalay Bay Resort & Casino in Las Vegas!

Joaquin Phoenix Says “I’m Still Here”

While most rappers are trying to reach international popularity in order to have their take on the silver screen, Joaquin Phoenix weirdly gives-up his acting career to concentrate on rapping. His new movie, “I’m Still Here,” details the unlikely transition.

Many have thought that the project is all but a prank during its announcement. Now, a teaser trailer of the flick is released exclusively on Yahoo, answering few questions of the now bearded and bloated former Hollywood actor and supporting the idea that the project is not a put-on after all.

“I’m Still Here” is directed by Joaquin Phoenix’s brother-in-law Casey Affleck. It is a documentary of Joaquin Phoenix’s weird transition as he goes through a “professional and emotional collapse: He’s rapping, he’s fighting, he’s hugging P. Diddy, he’s fighting again as a voice-over intones on water drops and divinity.”

Director James Gray who has worked with Joaquin Phoenix during his acting days in Hollywood believes that the movie is real. “If it is an act, it’s the most committed act I’ve ever seen in my life. I mean, he built this studio (in his house). The lengths to which he’s taken it are quite extreme.”

Eamonn Bowles of Magnolia Pictures also expresses his faith on the project. “It is going to get a lot of attention, but it is not some cheap stunt where they said, ‘Let’s do some wild stuff and film it.’ It is extreme behavior but really good filmmaking as well. Frankly, some of the behavior is very extreme. But it is in the context of the insanity of being in Joaquin’s life for that period of time. It is a unique piece of work that is going to surprise people in different ways.”

Weezer’s Album Cover Model Is The Smiling Hurley!

Far from the Gothic and Alexander-McQueen-esque type of covers that recording artists usually develop, post-grunge alternative rock band Weezer presents the pleasant face of actor Jorge Garcia to sell their album.

Without theme or words accompanying on the cover, the artwork is simply the smiling face of the fat actor who plays the friendly and dependable Hugo “Hurley” Reyes on the popular TV series “Lost.”

As endearing as the face of any fat man who smiles his big heart out to the world, Jorge Garcia’s image on the album cover reflects positivity and lightness.

“I just loved this photo of Jorge Garcia – it just had this amazing vibe. We didn’t want to do a fourth self-titled record and we knew people would refer to it as ‘the Hurley record’ even if we left it without that title, so we just called it Hurley. No words are on the cover because all we wanted was his amazing face,” says Weezer frontman Rivers Cuomo.

The “Hurley” album will mark Weezer’s debut on indie label Epitaph Records and will be released on September 14. Despite that Jorge Garcia’s “Lost” character has inspired the band, there is no song about him on the album. Weezer, after all, is not that big “Lost” fan.

Unlike Contra who’s album cover model is unbestknown even to the band, Weezer has personally asks permission from the not really “that” popular actor for using his face.

“I’m excited to know that people in the music stores (where) I used to work will soon be opening boxes full of my smiling face,” says a delighted Jorge Garcia who, now, will definitely have more reason to smile.
