Ellen Von Unwerth's Best Shot Is With A Ghost Model

Famous photographer and director Ellen von Unwerth tells that her best shot is with a "ghost model." On Glamour UK, the German lady who specializes in erotic femininity recalls:

"I took this maybe three years ago, on a fashion shoot for Italian Vogue. We developed a romantic story to go with it: a woman comes back to the place where she grew up, and finds it all dusty and falling apart. We shot it in a chateau in Paris. The girl was a model, and it was the only time I worked with her. After this, she disappeared. She was from eastern Europe, Romania maybe, and even the agency couldn't find her again. So she's like a ghost. The picture certainly has a ghostly feeling.

"I love a picture that surprises you: you try to get everything perfect, then somehow it ends up looking wrong. That's why I love this one. It was taken with a Polaroid, one of those beautiful things that no longer exist. The light has caused the blurriness, giving the shot extra emotion. There's something eerie about it, too: the girl's expression is both vulnerable and strong..."

How's that for Halloween? Spooooooky!

Photographers Take Center Stage in Fashion Photography Exhibit

Photographers will be highlighted in the exhibit that will showcase their craftsmanship in the Australian fashion photography exhibit dubbed as “From Fishnets to Ballgown (and Everything in Between).”

To work in the genre of photography that highlights clothing and fashion is no joke. Amidst the thousands of people in a modeling or commercial pictorial (including the make-up artists, hairdressers and other assistants), photographers must be able to make a connection between the lens of his/camera and the subject – all for the sake of capturing that one precious shot that speaks of everything about fashion and the industry.

Says one expert fashion photographer on the importance of building a connection with the subject in every fashion photography, “The model-photographer relationship is crucial. The more you work with one model, the more you can get out of situations. It's like having a relationship."

It's just amazing to realize how photographers builds a special world for him/her and the model during fashion photography, a world that transcends into the picture and sometimes making fashion photography a priceless historical masterpiece.

Mark your calendar, then, photography and fashion fanatics!

From April 23 to May 7, 2008, “From Fishnets to Ballgowns” fashion exhibit will feature works from 20 of Australia’s leading and promising fashion photographers such as Carlotta Moye, Candice Lake, Georges Antoni, Jez Smith, and David Mandelberg. This will be held on MLC Centre Fashion Level 7.

The chosen photographs will be exhibited for two weeks, A2- mounted and framed, and will be available for commercial distribution. The profits will go to Starlight Children’s Foundation, an Australian charity institution that helps seriously ill and hospitalized children.

Kudos to the photographers of the fashion photography exhibit and to their life-giving cause!
