Before the international stardom, the newly-crowned Miss Universe was a promising model who takes pride in her career. The 22-year old Venezuelan Dayana Mendoza already had a professional experience as a model where she spent years strutting along catwalks and learning to speak three languages.
"Being a model is just great. You show a brand, a beautiful dress," said the Hispanic beauty who started her modeling career at the age of 15.
Because she felt she needed more than just strutting on the catwalks, Dayana Mendoza joined the prestigious international beauty competition and eventually win the Miss Universe 2008 title.
"Being Miss Venezuela and Miss Universe, you have the opportunity to go all over the world and have contact with the people and show yourself, and that's what I really wanted, " she said.
As the new Miss Universe, Dayana Mendoza is set to become the public face of a global campaign against HIV and AIDS.
