Jennifer Hawkins, Naked And Unretouched On Marie Claire

Wearing nothing but make-up, the 26-year-old Aussie strips for the pictorial and exposes her flaws, including a slightly dimpled thigh and a tiny crease on her waist.
The supermodel's unretouched magazine cover is for the benefit of Butterfly Foundation, an organization that provides support to Australians who are struggling with eating disorders and body-image issues and their careers.
Considering that Jennifer Hawkins is still a supermodel despite her "flaws," critics ask why the foundation did not put forward a more average Australian woman if they are really serious on positive body image awareness campaign.
In defend of the supermodel's unretouched nude cover, Butterfly Foundation's General Manager Julie Parker says that magazines have already tried that tactic in the past but to no avail. She explains:
"The thing is unfortunately it doesn't make the same point, because Jennifer sells magazines and she creates awareness. If Marie Claire had chosen to put on their cover an ordinary women, say myself or a friend of yours, it would not have created the awareness it does."
And while a naked and unretouched Jennifer Hawkins on magazine cover helps attract buyers and eventually bring awareness to the issue of photo retouching, it remains a "one small part of the much wider spectrum of body image, self esteem and eating disorder issues."
Despite that the magazine could not address the skinny-versus-plus size issue in modeling, the foundation is still hopeful to help push magazines into including more natural images.
Jennifer Hawkins, for her part, says:
"I'm not a stick figure - I thought it would be great to tell women to just be themselves and be confident."
The supermodel's nude and unretouched photo cover on the February issue of Marie Claire magazine is on sale from January 6.
