Taylor Swift's MTV Video Awards, With Kanye West And Beyonce

MTV Music Video Awards gave to 19 year-old Taylor Swift the Best Female Video for "You Belong With Me" during the ceremony on Sunday September 13 in NYC. Determined by popular vote, it was not an unexpected award for Taylor Swift. She was the only country singer on the list of nominees which included Katy Perry, Kelly Clarkson, Lady Gaga, and P!ink. It was natural for her to get most of the country vote, aside from the votes coming from pop music fans.
What was unexpected happened after Taylor Swift received her award. It was her moment on stage as she shared, "I always dreamed about what it would be like to win one of these one day. I never thought it would happen." Suddenly, Kanye West went up on stage and stood beside the teen pop star. Audience thought it was just a joke when the rapper grabbed the mic from Taylor Swift. But when Kanye West started ranting about how he thought Beyonce's "Single Ladies" video was overlooked, people started to realize that the rapper was up to something more than just the unexpected stage appearance.
Beside the startled Taylor Swift, Kanye West went on ranting, "Hey Taylor, I'm really happy for you, but Beyonce had one of the best videos of all time." Sure enough, the teenage singer who just had a dream-come-true suffered her first live-on-stage humiliation. The audience felt for the young singer as they booed Kanye West. To express their disagreement to the rapper's obnoxious behavior, the audience gave Taylor Swift a standing ovation.
Celebrities also came to back-up the young country singer — Perez Hilton and Hayley Williams started a #TeamTaylor trend on Twitter. P!ink, on the other hand, tweeted "Kanye West is the biggest piece of sh-t on earth. Quote me. My heart goes out to Taylor Swift. She is a sweet and talented girl, and deserved her moment. She should know we all love her."
But what was most remarkable was when Beyonce went up on stage later during the event to receive her Best Video Award for "Single Ladies." Showing support for her fellow recording artist, she invited Taylor Swift back on stage again and spoke "Wow, this is amazing. I remember being 17-years-old and up for my first MTV award with Destiny's Child. It was one of the most exciting moments in my life. So, I'd like for Taylor to come out and have her moment." She gave her "moment" to Taylor Swift who finally had the chance to complete her acceptance speech. Beyonce then commented, "Maybe we can try this again."
Drama and extemporaneous acts are not uncommon in the MTV Awards. Kanye West's unexpected ranting on MTV stage is just one of those many scenes that elicit public attention day after the event, but eventually become a thing of the past in a week or two. But witnessing how one successful recording artist like Beyonce heartily extending her support to a young talent like Taylor Swift who's just starting out with her first major music recognition — that's remarkable sharing of fame.
