Naomi Campbell Models For Mumbai Victims

Wearing saris and local Indian outfits, supermodel Naomi Campbell models on the Mumbai runway for the Lakme Fashion Week. Her catwalk appearance is a tribute and fund-raising campaign for the victims of last year’s terror attacks in Mumbai.

Fiery Naomi Campbell shows her tender side as she helped raise funds for Mumbai’s emergency medical services. Through her gorgeous model physique, she steals everyone's attention in the charity show dubbed as “Mai Mumbai” – the solidarity event against the Mumbai terror attacks which is participated by 27 celebrated Indian designers and 21 International designers.

The 39-year old supermodel may be widely known for throwing tantrums but beneath the diva-like attitude, she’s also active in charity works. She leads a charity called “Fashion for Relief,” which has also raised roughly £700,000 in 2005 at the New York Fashion Week for the victims of Hurricane Katrina. After Mumbai, Naomi Campbell will head to South Africa to help an orphanage in Cape Town and meet Nelson Mandela.

Asked about her views on doing fashion shows for charity works, she answered:

"I don't do it for public adulation, even though I want the public to see it. What matters to me is that we make our contribution, as a fashion society, because many people feel that fashion designers or people in fashion are superficial and we don't give and we don't care. It's not true. We do care. Like you have actors do something. You have them do a presentation, you have the singers do a concert, this is our contribution, and this is what we do.”

It’s a good thing Naomi Campbell does modeling not only for profit but also for philanthropic endeavors. Because of her influence in the modeling industry, many fashion people will soon follow her altruistic examples.

Good Karma might have strike Naomi Campbell this early – she not only lifted the hearts of Mumbai victims but also impressed the Indian people. Now, Bollywood film executives are approaching her for future movie projects.

Supermodel Versus Fashion Robot

It's Supermodel Cindy Crawford's battle against time, against change, and against the age-defying fashion robots.

In a symbolic image of Cindy Crawford looking feisty in red lips and black Wonder Woman-looking suit, the supermodel looked gorgeous as an "ageless" fashion robot applies tonic on her face. The message is simple – no one (except fashion robots) will emerge victorious when it comes to longevity in the modeling world, not even almost-perfect supermodels like Cindy Crawford.

Cindy Crawford know that time will eat her flesh while robots stay beautiful. So this will be her declaration of defeat:

"I'm all for fighting the good fight, but I don't care how much you work but or how much cream you put on – things change."

Tyson Beckford Says Modeling Is Harder Than Lidsay Lohan Thinks

So this will make an update. Few days ago, we give you Tyson Beckford’s “breakout,” when he said that celebrities are not pretty enough to model. Two days after, we learned about Lindsay Lohan’s “yearning” to become a model. Well today, Tyson Beckford says modeling is harder than it looks especially for someone like Lindsay Lohan.

Tyson Beckford commented on Lindsay Lohan’s statement about how she would like to sign with IMG Models and do photo shoots as a model. The male supermodel believes that the modeling business is tougher than Lilo actually thinks.

“She (Lindsay) has the partying part down right. But I don’t think she’s got the focus. I mean, it requires a lot of focus and a lot of people think they can do it, but they really find that it’s a lot harder. Ask anyone - it’s a lot harder than it looks. I guess that’s why they call us supermodels - we make it look easy. But it’s not as easy as it looks, so I wish her all the best,” says the model and host of Bravo’s Make Me A Supermodel.

True. Tyson Beckford is speaking from his modeling experience when he shares that modeling is harder than it seems. But for Lindsay Lohan who needs to have some cash and cigarette breaks here and there, photo shoots may not be as harder as doing movies. For now, probably a modeling advice from Kate Moss is Lilo’s essential.

Victoria Beckham Models Emporio Armani Underwear

Victoria Beckham models an athletic body as she bends for Emporio Armani Underwear.

One look at Posh’ toned physique and you will understand how David Beckham falls for this former Spice Girls' sultry allure. Athletic Victoria Beckham’s provocative pose shows her toned legs, super flat stomach, and rounded bottom as she stretches backwards to model the latest lingerie collection of Emporio Armani Underwear.

Regardless that Victoria Beckham’s bending position is assisted by some clever lighting and flattering shadows to show a considerably curvier figure than what she’s normally known for, she’s undeniably most women’s envy. (She’s already a mother to three children at that!)

Victoria Beckham models for Giorgio Armani alongside her husband, and together, they earned an estimated £32 million for stripping, I mean, underwear modeling services.

Lindsay Lohan Wants To Be A Model

Who wants to be a model? Lindsay Lohan does!

It’s been a long time since Lindsay Lohan starred in a movie or made cameo appearances on TV shows. Aside from her private affair with Samantha Ronson, there’s certainly not much talk about this former adorable child actor anymore.

In her recent interview with Nylon Magazine, Lindsay Lohan reveals that she’s not doing anymore projects and she’s running out of cash: “It’s scary when you realize, ‘Oh my God, I’m not working. And I have a house to pay for now.’… and there have been some things I’ve really wanted to do.”

That’s why some people say that the Mean Girls star is desperate when she tells OK! Magazine that she would love to be a model for no less than the top modeling agency IMG Models, rivaling the likes of Kate Moss, Tyra Banks, and Naomi Campbell.

“I love doing photo shoots. I mean, if I could just sign with IMG and do ad campaigns and model more, I’d do that… because that’s fun for me. That’s not work.”

Good thing Lindsay Lohan still has her luck. When IMG learned about the Razzie-awarded actress’ intentions of becoming a model, they responded with a nod. Ivan Bart, Senior Vice President of IMG Models, expressed her approval of Lindsay Lohan's plan saying, “She’s a beautiful girl and obviously knows a lot about fashion. Providing that she was contractually free, we would take a meeting.”

Modeling may just be a way for Lindsay Lohan to remain on the limelight now that acting offers are no longer coming her way and she cannot afford her current lifestyle. But in all fairness, Lindsay Lohan may not be as bad in modeling as she is in acting. She has done several fashion advertising campaigns, most recently with Fornarina. As a runway model though, well, she better start practicing her catwalk strut!

Ok, enough talking. Now let’s see if Lindsay Lohan has what is takes to be a model:

Clueless Heidi Klum Asks, “Zero? What Size Zero?”

While people are debating over the existence of size zero in modeling, supermodel Heidi Klum seemed clueless to ask, “A size zero? I’ve never heard of that. That didn’t exist when I was growing up. When did that start? What does it mean? It means a person is not there, no? It makes no sense.”

The German model says that size zero simply doesn’t exists when ask about her opinion about the size zero debate. Size zero is the US dress size that is equivalent to UK’s dress size 4 and European’s size 32. It is the smallest size of a woman’s clothing, usually worn by slim runway models. It is actually designed for women who are excluded from standard vanity sizing. Because size zero is often associated with anorexic models and celebrities, it was incorrectly assumed to be designed to seriously thin women.

But no. The 35-year Heidi Klum, who has already established her name in the fashion industry, isn’t clueless to not knowing what size zero is. She simply doesn’t want to recognize size zero. While she was recently labeled as “too fat” for a runway model, she remained indifferent to the slimming pressures that the media expect from fashion models like her.

Aside from not recognizing size zero, Heidi Klum also tells the public that she would not have any plastic surgery: “I hope that when I reach 50 I look as good as Barbie does, but I don’t think I’d go for surgery. I think I'm going to get older with wrinkles – a few of them here and there.”

“Celebrities Are Not Pretty Enough To Model”

Remember how Tyra Banks reacted to the trend of fashion models losing out to Hollywood celebrities in terms of product endorsements? Well, she has just found a new supporter in the person of fellow black fashion model Tyson Beckford who now cries “Celebs aren’t pretty enough to model!”

The top male model finally let go of his sweet talks to express his sentiment over the use of celebrities in high fashion campaigns instead of models. Tyson Beckford can’t hold his dismay any longer over the fact that the media has been favoring celebrities when it comes to modeling gigs. He claims that actors are not beautiful enough to naturally look good in glossy print.

In the middle of his antagonism, he declares “You have to do a lot of tweaking and airbrushing to get the same from a celebrity that you would get from a model. A lot of celebrities - I’m gonna tell you right now - they’re not 5′11″; they’re not a size two to fit into these designer dresses, but the designers want exposure so they’re willing to make the specific dress for that actor or actress to get them to look good on the cover.”

Tyson Beckford has all the right in the world to say such things, despite being subjective. He’s a fashion model (a top one at that) and perhaps he has also been affected by the trend. Nevertheless, the 38-year old hunk believes that it will not take long for the fashion industry to realize that it’s sickening to use less-than-perfect stars.

“It’ll all come back around. One day some designer will wake up and say, ‘You know what? I don’t want to use Gwyneth Paltrow. I want to use Adriana Lima, I want to use Gisele Bundchen, I want to go back to the high fashion.’ I think slowly but surely you’ll see that start happening,” he predicts.

Tyson Beckford is the current host of Bravo’s “Make Me A Supermodel” reality TV show. He is also one of the highest paid and richest male supermodels in the world. He is known for his muscular physique but with his latest “breakout” over how celebrities are not pretty enough to model, he might soon become a damsel in distress.

Robot Model HRP-4C, To Hit The Tokyo Catwalk

From the electronic world of Japan, here’s another robot creation that attempts to "cause a stir" in the world of fashion – the £150,000 black-haired cyber beauty named HRP-4C who’s already scheduled to hit the Tokyo catwalk.

HRP-4C is a humanoid robot that is battery-powered in stormtrooper-like silver and black frame. The 30 motors in her body allow her to walk and gait like a supermodel, while the 8 motors in her face allow her to create human expressions like anger. (Isn’t catwalk models not allowed to show any expression?)

The fashion robot weighs 43 kg (95 lb), 158 cm (5 ft 2 inch) and has slimmed-down from an earlier weight of 58 kg (128 lb). According to Masayoshi Kataoka of the National Institute of Advanced Industrial Science and Technology, the current shape of the Cybernetic model is designed to match the average Japanese woman. On the other hand, the robot’s eyes, face, and hair are based on Japanese "anime" comics.

But while fashion models are not as “extraordinary” as the robotic model, they need not worry. Even HRP-4C’s creator Hirohisa Hirukawa says that her model just "had an ordinary figure" and is only wired for entertaining.

HRP-4C is set to make her catwalk debut at a fashion show in Tokyo, Japan on March 23.

Stampede At America's Next Top Model Audition

In the highly-publicized New York audition of America’s Next Top Model on Saturday, organizers were not able to control the stampede arising from thousands of model hopefuls. (Many women obviously responded to ANTM’s casting call for short models or those who are 5’7” and below.)

Apparently, a car overheated and blew smoke and someone from the crowd cried out, “There’s a bomb!” (Whoever applicant cried that should not be considered for lack of “poise under pressure!”) The crowd went on hysteria, eventually causing the stampede. Two women and a man were charged with disorderly conduct and inciting a riot. On the other hand, six women were required medical attention.

The audition was shut down but no Tyra Banks and no representatives of America’s Next Top Model gave their comment. Many model hopefuls blamed the chaos on bad organization and inability of the applicants to leave the queue to go to the toilet or get food.

Whew! All the things that a (short) model must do to earn a spot in the world…

Daphne Selfe Is World’s Oldest Supermodel At 80

At the age of 80, Daphne Selfe is no doubt the oldest supermodel in the world, strutting down the catwalk for Dolce & Gabbana, Tata-Naka and Michiko Koshino.

Nearly 60 years ago, Daphne Selfe started her modeling career with a 36-24-37 vital statistics. She stood 5’7” tall and had dark bob hair.

Now at 80, she still stands proud in a graceful posture of 36-26-36 and 8st 4lb , matched with striking cheekbones and long, lustrous bold grey hair. She’s currently booked by a top modeling agency, a covergirl for Vogue and Marie Claire, and do photo shoots with Mario Testino, Nick Knight, and David Bailey. She earns up to £1,000 a day in campaigns for top companies like Dolce and Gabbana, Gap, Nivea, and Olay.

Unlike other women who suffer insecurity in their 50th year onwards when their skins start sagging and their hairs start greying, Daphne Selfe confesses that she owe her continuous modeling career to the changes that she had to go through while aging. So it follows that she does not go to any cosmetic surgery procedures to fake her age.

"I was very lucky. I think it helps that I am half-Irish and I have a strong bone structure and I'm supple. My comeback was extraordinary and quite ironic. I got big when I embraced my age and went grey. My hair is my fortune, it made me more striking. Other younger models admire me but they're not jealous as I'm not a threat. I have a niche all of my own,” she proudly says.

She adds, “In those days you did your own hair and make-up for a shoot. Now I go as I am to a job and someone else takes complete care of me. It's wonderful.”

Daphne Selfe started modeling in 1950, after she was discovered while working in the fashion department of John Lewis in Reading. She won a local modeling competition, posed for photographer Gilbert Adams, and got to fill for a London agency’s fashion show as a last-minute model. She then signed for the agency and was sent to a three-week training course in London. Eventually, she received her first modeling job at 5 guineas (£15.75). Later, she got married and but still pursued modeling. In 1998, she joined a show for Red or Dead where she was spotted by an agent for Models 1. It was the start of her appearance for major brand campaigns.

While it’s the “predatory men” in the fashion industry that Daphne Selfe considers as greatest pitfall in modeling during her youth, today she believes that its the cocaine and alcohol. Aside from this, she also sees how contemporary models suffer from the pressure of being thin. She says, “My vital statistics were 36-24-37, and although I weighed 10st, no one asked me to lose weight. Some girls are naturally slim, like Lily Cole, but others take it too far and just look ill and gaunt. There should be a far wider spread of body shapes but at the end of day, the clothes must look good too. It's tricky.”

Being the world’s oldest supermodel at 80, Daphne Selfe maintains her figure by doing yoga and diets consisting of large amounts of fruit, vegetables and fish and drinking plenty of water.

"I don't feel a day over 60. It's fantastic. I'll continue modeling until they stop asking. I love it. It's fun and keeps me young,” she declares.

Dogs Model Cavalli’s Designer Petwear

Geeez. They say it’s tough times in the fashion industry now and models are paid in half-price. Too bad fashion models have a new competitor on the rise – dogs.

Roberto Cavalli expands his fashion empire to include dressing up pooches in the canine’s luxury world called “designer petwear.”

Cavalli’s Designer Petwear includes the most fashionable fleece T-shirts, velour tracksuits, quilted dog carriers, satin-trimmed bathrobe, as well as leopard print, rhinestone-studded garb – everything that will help them look like our favorite Hollywood stars!

Is the Italian fashion designer also undergoing fashion crisis now that he has come to dress dogs? Whatever. This will probably be great news for Paris Hilton.

They sure look fashionable on dogs, but will our hot-blooded, furry canine friends feel comfortable in these looks?

Speaking of dogs, a talent search has been announced for owners of misbehaved dogs for a brand new American version of the popular Animal Planet television program, “It's Me Or The Dog." View the casting HERE.

Lesson From Oscar-winning Movies: Making Smart Casting Decision

"The essence of a good casting decision is that you simply take it for granted."

"Hanna Schmitz" in the Oscar-awarded film The Reader should have been played by Nicole Kidman. "Ennis del Mar" in the critically-acclaimed movie Brokeback Mountain should have been played by Mark Wahlberg.

How come these A-list Hollywood stars did not end up with the Oscar-winning roles?

According to Janet Hirshenson, a casting agent who has already worked with big Hollywood films like A Beautiful Mind and A Few Good Men, big roles are taken for granted by the actors who are the casting agents’ early choices.

Hirshenhon and her casting partner, Jane Jenkins, say that there are two typical reasons why actors pass their starring roles to others: money and time. There are actors who demand a rate higher than what the budget allocates. Others, on the other hand, have to attend to other important business or obligation. Aside from these two usual reasons, there are also stars who take a project for granted simply because they are not interested or uncomfortable with the roles that they are going to play. This “picking” of roles is typical for Hollywood’s A-list actors whose star images are greatly affected by the roles they play on film.

This is the reason why making the right casting is very important to a film’s success. Needless to say, an actor (and her/his public image) is crucial to a movie’s success or failure. Typically, the first choices of casting agents are those popular actors who are box office figures.

It is the responsibility of the casting director to make sure s/he got the right casting for the project because it is her/him who works with the directors, producers and studio executives. Jane Jenkins who is also the co-author of the book A Star Is Found: Our Adventures of Casting Some of Hollywood's Biggest Movies believes that when one have the right casting for the project, it is impossible to think any other stars doing the film. “It only sticks out like a sore thumb when it doesn't work, but usually those movies don't do well enough for anybody to even notice.”

As for the question why Nicole Kidman did not end up doing Kate Winslet role in The Reader, the reason is that she did not have much time anymore – she got pregnant with Sunday Rose. In the same not-so-lucky fate, Mark Wahlberg refused the starring role in the film that earned Heath Ledger an Oscar award and earned an estimated $180 million at the worldwide box office because he was "a little creeped out by the gay cowboy storyline and sex scene."

Pamela Anderson Spices Up Vivienne Westwood's Show

Here comes the busty Baywatch babe Pamela Anderson, strutting down the catwalk!

In the Vivienne Westwood's Fall-Winter 2009-2010 ready-to-wear collection fashion show in Paris last Friday, Pamela Anderson walked down the catwalk twice to the surprise of audience.

Sexy and curvaceous Pamela Anderson spiced up the fashion show by modeling a satin-draped tutu, hot-pants and second-skin skirt suit. “An exceptionally strong dress- and skirt-only show at Lanvin and an Asian-tinged display at Christian Dior rounded out the day's offerings,” says one media critic.

The Canadian actress appearance on the fashion show of Vivienne Westwood echoed the call of the British fashion designer to wear back-to-front shirts in the battle against economic crisis.

"Buy less, choose well, mix it all. Wear your shirt back to front, that way you get two ways of wearing your shirt," orange-haired Vivienne Westwood told reporters.

A Tear On A Runway Model’s Face

Runway models trip and fall on fashion shows and that’s normal. But a tear on a runway model’s face while hitting the catwalk is something new.

At a Jil Sander Fashion Show last Friday, Lithuanian model Auguste Abeliunaite was seen hitting down the catwalk with tears flowing down her cheeks. She was on the catwalk twice and the audience spotted her crying both times.

What could have happened to this teary-eyed model? Some of the audience in the fashion show suspected that the crying model’s moment was part of the show. After all, it was a new gimmick that will probably make publicity now that falling down on the runway is no longer new. Others, on the other hand, assumed that it was the effect of the global economic crisis (whew!)

According to reports, even Jil Sander's publicist was not aware that a model was crying on the runway. When the spokesman saw the picture of the allegedly crying model, he said "I did not see it, can’t see it in the video and no one has asked about it to anyone in the press offices."

So, what really made her cry? Is it because her boyfriend has called prior to the event to split up with her? Or she has not eaten any food in the last two days to prepare herself for the show? Or she was overwhelmed by the wonderful creations of Jil Sander?

According to one backstage worker at the show, the model was crying because her shoes were extremely uncomfortable and high.

"She had broken her foot a while back and she had a bad cramp in one of her feet whilst walking on the catwalk. She was scared that she would fall because of the high and uncomfortable shoes. I can imagine the pain and the fear of falling made her cry."

Reports had it that the model herself, Auguste Abeliunaite, claimed that the tears on her face during the fashion show was because the lights were too strong on the runway. If this was the case, why is it that the other models not affected by the lights? And was she new to runway modeling, which normally has strong lights?

Whether or not the crying model was telling the truth, the fashion industry may never know. What's there to observe is that despite the tears flowing down Auguste Abeliunaite's face, she just looked straight ahead and walked on, trying not to show emotion a professionalism expected from runway models like her.

Megan Fox and the Supermodels as Hot, Fashionable Nuns

Yes, brothers and sisters. Nuns inspire the latest trend in fashion these days – appearing on magazine covers in their supermodel lure or dressing up to the latest creations of Dior, Calvin Klein, and Jean Paul Gaultier.

After the revolutionary success of the black issue of Vogue Italia, six supermodels were featured on the fall 2008 issue of POP magazine as “Hot Nuns.” Agyness Deyn, Jourdan Dunn, Naomi Campbell, Natalia Vodianova, Amber Valletta, and Oluchi Onweagba were styled in Prada’s sexy see-through lace as photographed by Sebastian Faena.

Meanwhile, Megan Fox also dressed up as Mother Theresa to grace the “immensely popular” style in the underground fetish community today. Her image was just one of the many subversion of the supposedly virtuous nun, who is also now clothed in latex or leather nun uniforms and frequently wears a gas mask.

Good heavens! We wonder how the religious community reacts to this trend, but nuns are really experiencing a HOT makeover in pop culture these days and we’ll say amen to that.

Daria Werbowy: Killer Legs Galore

How to become a supermodel? You need to have the body. The attitude. And the killer legs.

Leggy supermodel Daria Werbowy shows off her asset in the upcoming April 2009 edition of Vogue Nippon. Photographed by Inez van Lamsweerde and Vinoodh Matadin, “Uptown Girl” editorial flaunts the legs of the supermodel in different cocktail gowns.

The supermodel's leggy pictorial for Vogue aims to inspire women “to dress with full length gowns that have waist-high slits and see-through material that guarantee legs will be the center of the show.”

Inspiring, yes. But too bad not all women have legs as good as hers...
