Model Sophie Anderton Shares Her Life In Prostitution
It takes a lot of courage to open up and reveal an ugly past behind the glamorous life. But when career is at stake, it's better to come up clean than let other people uncover the dirty secret first. (Or if people has already discovered the dirty secret, at least you get to tell your side of the story.)Sophie Anderton, 32 year-old British model and former star of reality TV's "I'm A Celebrity," detailed her past life as a high-priced prostitute who sold her body to pay soaring drug debts.
She was a promising fashion model when she fell into alcohol and cocaine abuse and later sorted to prostitution to support her lifestyle. She started her modeling career at the age of 16 and has already made a name for herself after appearing in the Gossard Glossies "Girl in the grass" national advertising campaign. Earning £30,000 per week, she later became an "it girl" and started a lifestyle of parties, drug, and sex.
She never fully discussed her time working as a hooker before but through British tabloid The Sun, Sophie Anderton recalled:
"In the summer of 2004 I was drinking a bottle of vodka a night and using cocaine by day. The coke ran out, my cash card was rejected and my dealer was ringing up demanding payments. I knew I desperately needed money — now."
And so with her Dolce and Gabbana and Christian Dior suits and six-inch Christian Louboutin heels, she became a high-class hooker, using her body and her name for the money-making side venture. She bedded a string of millionaire businessmen and used to charge $23,907 (15,000 pounds) an hour for her services.
The model said that her life in the prostitution ended after giving services to a "leering" overweight businessman:
"I felt sick. His face was sweaty and cheerful, like a cat who'd got the cream. For the first time, I felt like a piece of meat. He stripped, revealing a huge stomach. It was over in a minute. I left trembling and crying. I had slept with five men and made more than £50,000, which paid my drug debts and a deposit on a flat. Now I could escape."
Sophie Anderton was first exposed of her prostitution and cocaine-use in 2007 after an entrapment operation made by News of the World tabloid newspaper.
For all her experiences, the model says that she is not proud of her past but claims that the British TV and fashion industry is "awash" with girls who have fallen into vice including two household name models.
"This is the truth, warts and all. For a short while I sold my body for a lot of money. I am not proud of it."
