Magazines Code of Conduct Against Skinny Models

In Australia, the government is reportedly coming up with a code of conduct that requires magazines to inform readers when its photographs of fashion models have been digitally altered.

The magazines code of conduct aims against skinny models. Since magazine editors and advertisers will inform the readers of the digital enhancements made out of the fashion photographs, body image of the usually skinny (and/or anorexic) fashion models will no longer be seen as “real.”

According to Youth Minister Kate Ellis, body image is one of the biggest concerns among young people, and children as young as six are being diagnosed with anorexia. "It talks about disclosing when images are being altered so that kids aren't aspiring to look like models that don't look like that in real life anyway. It's about transparency in the media, but also promoting health, promoting healthy body images and saying healthy is beautiful."

The Executive Director of the Council of Textiles and Fashion Industries of Australia, Jo Kellock, adds that government intervention is needed to combat anorexia in the modeling industry because the industry has not been able to regulate itself. For the start, the revered magazines code of conduct against skinny models will be one government initiative to better promote healthy body image to children.

Another Fashion Model Dies From Falling!

After the tragic death of 20-year old Ruslana Korshunova who leaped from the 9th floor balcony of her Manhattan apartment, another fashion model by the name of Hayley Marie Kohle died after falling from a seventh floor window.

Canadian model Hayley Marie Kohle died last Saturday in Milan, Italy. While her family has only heard that she fell from a seventh floor window, Italian Police were investigating the incident whether it was suicide, someone pushed her, or she accidentally fell.

The model's family and close friends expressed doubt from the incident. Hayley Marie Kohle, 26, sent an e-mail to a friend about an hour before she died and nothing seemed to be out of the ordinary, a friend said. Kohle's friend, Quinn Adams, shared, “Just absolutely fabulous. She could light up a room. She was a model. She had everything going for her, she was ready to be a supermodel. And when somebody dies like that, it’s going to be suspicious, I think.”

One of Hayley Marie Kohle's first modeling coaches, Liz Crawford, agreed to Adams doubt: “How does a girl fall from the seventh floor window of a model apartment? I don’t know. I mean, you know, it’s a little unusual.”

Crawford believed that there should be more regulation in the modeling industry to avoid tragic deaths of models like what happened to Hayley Marie Kohle and that of Ruslana Kurshunova.

As a modeling coach, Crawford was behind the Worker Recruitment and Protection Act, which was passed in Manitoba last spring. The act required licenses for employment agencies, individuals recruiting foreign workers and anyone who recruits or represents models or entertainers. Crawford was always hopeful that other levels of government will help protect models from finding themselves in situations they are not prepared to handle.

“My concern for a lot of the girls that come in, is just, you know, how well educated are they before they go off and do this?” the protective modeling coach Liz Crawford expressed.

Meanwhile, Hayley Marie Kohle's funeral was already scheduled for next week.

Hayley Marie Kohle, originally from Beausejour, Winnipeg in Canada, was living and working in Milan. She was with Future Models, a Milan-based modeling agency. She used to be a model for Panache Agency back in Canada. As a model for several years, she had traveled around the globe for work, while supporting her parents and eight sisters and three brothers back home.

Pixie Geldof Models To Stop Illegal Human Trafficking

Pixie Geldof, the 18-year old daughter of the Irish singer and activist Bob Geldof and the younger sister of model Peaches Geldof, is following the footsteps of her father and her sister as she models to stop illegal human trafficking.


One of its campaign ad featured Pixie Geldof with an anti-human trafficking slogan t-shirt, in an effort to draw attention to the worldwide problem. She teamed up with Katherine Hamnett who designed the t-shirt.

Pixie Geldof's modeled limited edition t-shirt was launched yesterday, ahead of EU Anti-trafficking Day on October 18. It will be available for £20 at the London's Museum in the Docklands next Saturday.

Asked what makes the British model Pixie Geldof passionate in the campaign to stop illegal human trafficking, she has a strongly stated, “Every year 2.5 million people are trafficked globally, and many women my age and younger are forced into the sex trade. It's time we open our eyes to the situation. This is real and it has to stop!"

Back-To-School Lily Cole

The 20-year old supermodel Lily Cole is back to school as she enrolled a course in history of art at the prestigious Cambridge University in London two weeks ago.

Lily Cole, 20-year old British supermodel, posed unclothed in French Playboy with the belief that the shoot is “not just nude, it's art.”


Lily Cole is featured in a 14-page spread inside the Playboy magazine. In the interview which accompanied the photos, she explained why she was convinced to pose naked.

“Nudity has always existed in art, and I think that, given the right conditions, it doesn’t necessarily 'debase' any more than it celebrates or represents the human body.”

Being a high-profiled fashion model who have worked with top clothing companies like M&S, the decision of the young model to pose for the men's magazine had triggered controversy even before its release.

Although there have been reports of Lily Cole to be dropped by M&S, the supermodel remained confident that her decision to pose for Playboy will not caused her her career. To back her up, a spokesman for M&S also released a statement saying, “Lily Cole is a popular, high-profile model who is very much in demand, and this is one of the key reasons why we have chosen to work with her.
