Kelly Knox Wins Britain's Missing Top Model

The 23-year old Kelly Knox who was born without a left arm had won the BBC3' modeling competition series, Britain's Missing Top Model.

Kelly Knox triumphed through six weeks of modeling tests from fellow contestants with disabilities ranging from deaf to brain injury. She earned a modeling contract with Take 2 Model Management plus a magazine photoshoot for UK's top magazine Marie Claire.

Always feeling beautiful despite her disability, Kelly Knox bravely reached out for her dream and succeeded as she said, “In my household we don't use the word disabled. Never have done, never will do. I don't feel disabled but society will label me as being disabled.”

Marie Claire was also supportive for disabled models like Kelly Knox as its editor Marie O'Riordan commented, "To get disability discussed on the sofas throughout the land is no mean feat and using a popular format of a reality show was a clever way of seducing viewers into a more complex world. We hope this does pave the way for girls with disabilities to get into modeling in the future."

So hopefully, Kelly Knox will also win the hearts of people in the modeling industry, just as she won Britain's Missing Top Model.

Swedish Model Sabina Johansson Busted In Prostitution Ring!

Sabina Johansson, a 23-year old Swedish model who appeared in an Avril Lavigne music video and on the Tyra Banks Show, was busted on Thursday in Big Daddy Lou’s Hot Lap Dance Club on W. 38th Street in Manhattan. The model allegedly worked as a house madam for a prostitution ring.

The club owner, prominent attorney Lou ‘Big Daddy’ Posner, was also arrested and charged with promoting prostitution at the club.

Sabina Johansson (also known as Sabina Mari) denied knowing the sex-for-sale activities going on in the private rooms of the club. However, New York investigators confirmed her involvement in the business.

According to the statement of the investigators, NYPD vice unit officers once posed as patrons at the club. The young model eventually greeted them at the club and hinted that they could expect sex from lap dancers if the price was right.

As the house mom, the model was said to collect nightly fees of up to $80 from the club’s 120 dancers. She also took charge of scheduling the dancers' shifts and in the renting out of the private rooms and suites.

While Sabina Johansson could not be reached for comment on the issue, the news of the young model's arrest is expected to distress the modeling industry once again. Before Sabina Johansson's case, the Kazakh model Ruslana Korshonuva who recently committed suicide by jumping from her Manhattan apartment was also rumored to have been involved in a prostitution ring that exploited young foreign models.

Thus, the arrest of the Swedish Model Sabina Johansson in the prostitution ring was said to raise new concerns over how young fashion models can vulnerably fall into lines of work that exploit their beauty and inexperience.

Jodie Kidd Speaks Over Drug And Weight Allegations

Supermodel Jodie Kidd finally speaks out her side against drug and weight allegations that have been reported to cause her drop-out from many modeling campaigns.

In a public recent interview, the 29-year old Jodie Kidd answered claims of the supermodel helping supplied cocaine and regularly took class A drugs as her“year from hell.”

"I was just someone minding their own business, plodding on in life. They had no need to do it because I'm not a bad person. I was very shocked. It was totally out of the blue."

As to reports of dropping out by her modeling agency, Independent, because of weight gain, Jodie Kidd explains, "I went in to their offices to say I was leaving about a month ago because I wanted to concentrate on the sports and presenting side of my career. The next thing I know, I've supposedly been dropped by them because I'm fat. I haven't got a clue where that came from. I'm too skinny, then I'm too fat. I can't really do anything right. I'm a size 12. I'm always going to be long and bony, but I'm not going to fit into a size zero, that's for sure. I've moved on."

So there it goes, Jodie Kidd speaks over drug and weight allegations. Though her answer on drug issues do not really clarify her involvement with drugs, her answer on weight gain issues is clear. She's not fat, she's just not a size zero.

Today's Famous Models Do Not Deserve To Be Called “Supermodel”

This is according to 38-year Naomi Campbell. (In as much as we want to write other things aside from this black supermodel and all her personal troubles, there are just too many qualms coming from her, and sometimes her issues are criticisms, constructive or not, to the modeling industry.)

Recently, Naomi Campbell made yet another issue when she said that most famous models of today do not deserved to be called supermodel.

In one of her media interviews, the feisty black model claimed that current top popular models don't deserve the tag “super.”

"I think the term 'supermodel' gets thrown around too much nowadays... Models need to earn their stripes - I just think the term is used a little too loosely."

Today's top fashion models include catwalk sensations Agness Deyn and Lily Cole. But for Naomi Campbell, they are not worthy enough to be called “supermodels.”

"Kate Moss is obviously a supermodel but after Gisele Bundchen I don't think there's been one."

Golden Advice For Aspiring Models - Research!

Last week, the modeling industry had been appalled again by the news of another fashion model's death. Suicide was no longer the suspect for the death of Canadian Model Diana Gabrielle O'Brien in Shanghai, China. It was a murder incident, with the 22-year old model found dead in her apartment building's stairwell after allegedly slain by a local resident for money.

After the incident, it was found out that the murdered Canadian Model just arrived in China of June 24 and eventually worked for an agency (that have been shuttered and disappeared after the model's death was publicized) which required her to dance on podium as part of her “modeling” assignments. Thus, the young model became skeptical. She wanted to go back to her home in Salt Spring Island, British Columbia. Unfortunately, she couldn't go back – she barely had no money earned yet. Worst, she got killed in some kind of senseless violence.

How should we know that a modeling agency is legitimate?

The golden rule is always research. Research if your qualified to be a fashion model. Research for legitimate modeling agencies that you know. Research for the prospect agency through the phone. Research from your relatives and friends if they also know the agencies as models or as simple commoners. Research about the agency through the models and clients themselves. Lastly, research how should legitimate agencies function as a talent/model management company and how they treat their models when it comes to projects and and work assignments.

According to a young model, "Modeling teaches you to ask questions, do your homework, learn that you need to eat well, get your sleep, show up on time and be polite. All these are important lessons to learn to do well in any job."

And according to a representative of a modeling agency where the young model works, "We can believe in a girl and promote a girl and recommend a girl, but in the end, when she walks through that door, it's all up to her."

Fashion Models As Businesswomen

Fashion models almost always have pretty faces and beautiful physique. Their asset is their bodies and they earn good income out of it just by walking on the catwalk and posing for the covers of top magazines and commercial labels. However, would you believe that many of the most famous models we have today are also successful businesswomen?

Our famous supermodels are in fact smart entrepreneurs:

Heidi Klum has her own line of jewelry collection as well as a skin-care line. Aside from hosting the famous reality series, Project Runway, she also works as its executive producer.

Kate Moss owns the clothing label Topshop and the fragrance line Coty.

Tyra Banks has her Bankable Productions which owns 25 percent of the high-rating reality show, America's Next Top Model, syndicated to more than 100 countries worldwide.

Cindy Crawford is a successful furniture designer.

Marisa Miller takes partnership with shoe brand Vans as a designer.

Kathy Ireland owns Kathy Ireland Worldwide – a successful company that produces a collection of socks and other home design and apparel.

Iman established her own cosmetic company, I-Iman Cosmetics.

Jennifer Flavin Stallone owns a skin-care company later established Seriesse, a direct-sale company of wellness products.

And of course our very own Hilary Rowland become a successful web entrepreneur from being an international top model.

Other models also become successful photographers, makeup artists and stylists.

Most of these famous models said that the reason why they went into business ventures is that they know that modeling is not forever and that their different businesses are extension of their personalities – the kind of life they want to live if they are not on the catwalk or magazine covers.

But while it may be true that modeling is not forever, it cannot be denied that their modeling career has become their foundation in establishing their businesses. These fashion models become successful businesswomen primarily because of modeling – proving the world that they are not just pretty faces and beautiful bodies but that they also possessed the brilliant heads for businesses.

Supermodel Naomi Campbell Against Lack Of Black Models

At times, she could be the grumpiest and most irate supermodel to date. But on one side, she is the great Naomi Campbell – one of the most popular black fashion models of her time, and probably the most passionate one when it comes to bringing the girls of her color to the same catwalk fame she enjoys.

"I don't do so many shows anymore, but I do count how many girls of color they use in the shows. It happens to be last year New York was the worst. Now at Paris Haute Couture there was only one black girl out of all the shows. It cannot be a trend." the black British supermodel said.

Naomi Campbell takes pride in representing her race on the catwalk, the reason why she's still active in modeling at the age of 38, and after more than two decades on the international runway. "I'm very grateful for my career, but I worry for the girls after me for the opportunities they get – the way they get treated. And this is one of the reasons I still do what I do."

Because she is one of those influential figures who had criticized the lack of black supermodels on the catwalk, she felt grateful for Italian Vogue which has recently featured mainly black models in its July edition - highlighting the problem of fashion designers favoring fair-skinned over dark-skinned models.

"For me, it is something that is history-making. Something that I'm going to keep forever," she said about the magazine. Naomi Campbell has photos on the Italian Vogue July edition, along with Supermodel Tyra Banks, Supermodel Iman, and other black actors and singer.

As for her own personal experience with racism, the Supermodel Naomi Campbell simply said, "I'm a fighter."

Supermodel Heidi Klum Swim With Sharks

Take it from Supermodel Heidi Klum: If you want to be a stronger person, swim with sharks!

Well, this was not really how Heidi Klum meant it. In a recent documentary segment of Discovery Channel, the 35-year old supermodel swam in shark-infested water.

The 5' 9 ½'' supermodel was very inspired from the experience. She had long been afraid of sharks so it was natural for her not to get involved in the things that scares her. However, she was serious of conquering her fears. So when an opportunity came for the Supermodel Heidi Klum to swim with sharks, she faced her fears and emerged victorious.

The supermodel and host of on-going popular reality TV show “Project Runway” tells an international magazine, "I jumped into the water with 45 sharks without a cage in the Bahamas. That was a really good experience.”

Eventually, how the “Supermodel Heidi Klum swim with sharks” has made big news in the media. But as for swimming with sharks in order to become a better person, the German supermodel explains, "I'm not saying that everyone should swim with sharks, but sometimes you have to jump over your own shadow in order to learn something that you will never forget for the rest of your life. Then you know you can conquer your fears."

Top Model, Raped After Drink Is Spiked!

A top model, whose identity is kept confidential, was allegedly raped after her drink was spiked while hanging up at the exclusive Park Lane nightclub.

The 18-year old model said the rape happened when she went to the club last Wednesday evening. A 23-year-old man whom she had met previously at the club gave her a drink with Rohypnolstyle “date rape” drug on it and then sexually assaulted her. She said she felt dizzy and disoriented after taking the spiked drink, allowing the assailant to led her down to the cellar area of the Whisky Mist club at the Hilton Hotel where the attack took place.

According to the top model's friend, “She was having a drink at the bar and enjoying herself. She was also given a drink by the guy she says went on to rape her. Then she suddenly felt dizzy and disorientated... She has a hazy memory of what happened but is convinced she was spiked with some kind of drug... She was then led downstairs into the cellar area where wine and drinks are stored and says she was raped... After that she remembers coming upstairs in the club and realizing something dreadful had happened...”

Police are now investigating the reported assault - the alleged rapist was arrested later that day and was bailed to return later this month for further inquiries.

Meanwhile, the top model is still recovering from the dreadful experience. A close friend says, “She is in pieces. She can’t stop crying and is frightened of every shadow.”

The raped model is a regular at top designers’ shows in London, New York, Milan and Paris.

Naomi Campbell Cosies Up To Her Designer

At 38, Supermodel Naomi Campbell must have already learned that when you want to make it big in modeling, you also got to have a cozy relationship with fashion designers. The 5' 9 ½'' model must have learned this lesson by heart as she recently cosied up with her fashion designer, literally.

Naomi Campbell and YSL fashion designer Stefano Pilati appeared in the August '08 cover of i-D Magazine. On the photo, the black supermodel cosied up to the designer in all her nakedness. A lovely 26-inch hair extension peered in to cover parts of the supermodel's body.

As lovely as the supermodel and the photography itself, Naomi Campbell's photo with YSL's Stefano Pilati reflects the intimacy of fashion designers with their models – the vital connection that both models and designers need to achieve fashion perfection.

Will Survivor's Mark Burnett Survive A $70 Million Lawsuit?

Mark Burnett, the producer of the famous reality show on television, Survivor, is facing charges from his former business partner.

Conrad Riggs filed the lawsuit against Mark Burnett on Monday, claiming that the producer owed more than $70 million for his contributions to their joint efforts.

In the lawsuit, Conrad Riggs has identified that he and Mark Burnett has produced more than a dozen television projects. While Burnett takes care of the creative aspect of the shows, Riggs focuses on the financial success of the enterprise. However, Burnett allegedly broke a long-standing agreement to give 10 percent of Burnett's profits to Riggs.

Supermodel Jodie Kidd Dropped By Agency After Weight Gain!

Once dubbed as the “hottest Kidd in town,” Birtish Supermodel Jodie Kidd has been dropped by her London-based model agency, Independent. This was after the 29-year old model lost several important contracts following her weight gain.

According to reports, the supermodel has been eating calorific treats lately and this has led to her piling on pounds. "She wasn't looking after herself and piled on weight by eating junk food. It was proving hard to get her any work at all," reports added.

Aside from weight issues, Jodie Kidd is also facing drug scandals. The 6'1'' blonde supermodel has also lost a $500,000 Marks and Spencer contract after being caught selling cocaine to an undercover reporter last year.

Reports added that Jodie Kidd is in fact, welcoming the media exposure from her drug scandals as she compares herself to the famous supermodel Kate Moss. "Jodie was a bit arrogant and thought a drugs scandal would be as beneficial for her as it was for Kate Moss. But the fact is that Jodie isn't in the same league as Kate."

The Independent confirmed: "We're not representing Jodie any more. She is not modeling at the moment and wants to do more TV presenting."

However, dropped Supermodel Jodie Kidd is not making it big as a TV personality these days, as she even lost a commercial endorsement on one television channel . Tsk, tsk, too bad...

Humanoid Robot To Replace Fashion Models?

Will humanoid robots replace our models in the near future?

In Japan, the Hyogo Prefectural Institute of Technology recently presented a fashion model humanoid robot named Manekin Robotto. It currently sells for about $940 at the Japanese Institute.

Programmed to walk like a fashion model, the Manekin Robotto weighs 30kg. It is able to move through 16 joints and motorized cylinders built into its body. The robot is also able to cross and bend its legs, just like human models.

The movements of the Manekin Robotto can be controlled using a PC. It can also be remote-controlled via a cell phone. The robot can move independently using an SD card with pre-saved instructions inserted into the robot’s memory card slot located in its head.

As to the question whether the Manekin Robotto will replace fashion models in the coming years, it's safe to say that this may take a long time to be realized. Firstly, the humanoid robot might not be able to do fast-paced ramping on the catwalk like real models because it barely stands 160cm tall, a height not even qualified for typical modeling jobs. Second, the robot looks so thin and ugly, it will surely be charged anorexic these days.
