Sharon Stone apologizes for “karma” statement
When work is at stake, you've got to make sure you have the sweetest smell for the media and the public, even if it means making a public apology for personal opinions. This is what the actress Sharon Stone learned when she made a public apology for saying that recent Chinese earthquake is “karma” during her speech in the Red Carpet Review in the Cannes Film Festival. The 50-year old actress was dropped out by the French fashion house Christian Dior from its Chinese ads after her Cannes statement stirred anger in the Chinese media.
Sharon Stone expressed her sympathy to the current conditions of Tibetans under Chinese rule as she said, "I'm not happy about the way the Chinese are treating the Tibetans because I don't think anyone should be unkind to anyone else... And then this earthquake and all this stuff happened, and then I thought, is that karma? When you're not nice that the bad things happen to you?"
But her bold statement roused anger to many Chinese people. She was even labeled by a Chinese news agency as "public enemy of all mankind."
Shortly after, Sharon Stone was dropped from the Christian Dior ads in China. The company also released a statement from the actress apologizing for her statement.
Too bad for Sharon Stone, she is now castrated in the Chinese community for her “karma” statements despite the apology.
