Reality TV: A Sure Ticket To Stardom

If you're a nobody who wants to make a career in show business without going through stringent talent workshops to make it into Hollywood, then reality TV could just be the right spot for you.

Reality TV is television programming with unscripted and unedited filming of what is happening in an environment that is followed by the lens of the camera. It usually stars ordinary people instead of professional actors.

With reality TV, once unknown faces become instant stars especially if the program is top-rating and aired internationally. Thus, participants are able to become national celebrities in a month or two. Although the careers of some Reality TV stars are short-lived, there are also successful celebrities who are able to established a name in the showbiz industry. It is no wonder that Reality TV becomes the most notable talent-search program (like America's Got Talent and American Idol).

There are many reality TV shows that are aired by top television networks like ABC, MTV, NBC, and CBS, among others. But the most popular of the today's reality TV programs is probably the Big Brother series, which have developed different versions of the program from its original airing in the Netherlands in 1999. Big Brother is a program where some 10 or 12 complete strangers live inside a house that is isolated from the outside environment. Inside the Big Brother house, the “housemates” are expected to follow the rules of “Big Brother” and try to avoid periodic evictions from the house. The grand winner receives cash prizes and usually signs up for contract with the showbiz industry. Currently, a US television network is launching casting calls for another Big Brother series that is expected to hit the airwaves.
