Playwright: Tennessee Williams
Director: Gordon Edelstein
Casting: Carrie Gardner
1st rehearsal: February 9, 2010; Runs: March 5 to June 13
SEEKING:
1.) MALE (late 20s-early 30s; any ethnicity) - JIM O'CONNOR (The Gentleman Caller). Tennessee Williams describes Jim as a "nice, ordinary young man." He works with Tom at the warehouse and has been brought to the Wingfield's home for dinner with the hope that he may become enamored of Laura. Jim was an outstanding success in high school but life since graduation has been tougher than he expected and he is not quite the golden boy he once was. Still, he is cheerful and optimistic and does his best to draw Laura out of her shell;
2.) FEMALE (mid-late 50s; Caucasian) - AMANDA. A faded Southern Belle, abandoned by her husband and struggling to adjust to the new conditions of her life. She is not fundamentally mean but her desperation to see her children to succeed makes her seem ruthless at times;
3. ) FEMALE (mid-late 20s; Caucasian) - LAURA. Amanda's daughter. A childhood illness that left her physically crippled has caused her to become emotionally fragile;
4.) MALE (late 20s-late 30s; any ethnicity) - TOM. Amanda's son and narrator of the play. He aspires to be a poet but holds a job in a warehouse to support his family. His nature is not remorseless, but he feels trapped and to escape he has to act without pity. Actor also covers Jim (see above description).
