Theatre in the Square (Marietta, GA) is casting A Man For All Seasons. Robert Bolt, author; Robert Farley, dir. Rehearsals begin Feb. 17; runs March 11-April 19 in GA.
SEEKING:
MALE (40s) - THE COMMON MAN. Crafty, humorous, benevolent when convenient, plays multiple characters;
MALE (early 30s) - RICHARD RICH. Melancholy lit by the fire of ambition and appetite, academic hounded by self-doubt, longing to be rescued from himself;
MALE (late 40s) - DUKE OF NORFOLK. Sportsman and soldier, tries to adhere to the code of duty, convinced that his acts and ideas are important because they are his, aware of his insignificance;
FEMALE (40s) - LADY ALICE MORE. Wife of Sir Thomas, mother of Margaret More, born into the merchant class, now a great lady, absurd at a distance, impressive close up, worships society and her husband, and consequently is troubled by and defiant towards both;
FEMALE (mid-20s) - LADY MARGARET MORE. Daughter to Sir Thomas and Alice More, both suffers and shelters behind her reserve and stillness, which is only mitigated by her father’s love;
MALE (40s and over) - CARDINAL WOLSEY/THOMAS CRANMER. Two roles played by one actor, Wolsey, old, big, decaying body in scarlet robes, verging on megalomania, presently inhabits the loneliness of self-indulgence and contempt, Cranmer, Archbishop of Canterbury, to him, the Church is an administrative job and theology the tools to administer;
MALE (late 30s) - THOMAS CROMWELL. Intellectual bully, a conceit that cradles the criminal in the name of efficient action;
MALE (60s; Caucasian) - SIGNOR CHAPUYS. Spanish Ambassador, professional diplomat and lay ecclesiastic, self-anointed man of the world, happily content to tread a narrow path of ethic and intellect;
MALE (30s) - WILLIAM ROPER. Stiff and immobile, an all-consuming righteousness is his burden, his solace and his hobby.
