Stage Actors Wanted On Theatre For "Uncle Vanya"
Classic Stage Company is casting Uncle Vanya. Anton Chekhov, writer; Austin Pendleton, dir.; James Calleri & Paul Davis, casting. Rehearsals begin Dec. 9; runs Jan. 14-Feb. 22, 2009 with possible extension until March 8.
SEEKING:
MALE (40s to 50s) - ASTROFF. Doctor, broken idealist, alcoholic, dissipated, handsome and sexually appealing but maybe past his prime, still fighting for the right thing, but compromised by his personal failures;
FEMALE (20s to early 30s) - YELENA. Young second wife of Serebriakoff, beautiful, alluring, passionate yet sometimes idle, moody, fickle, married to someone who commands no respect, inspires the fascination and obsession of other characters without any effort, presumably without intending to at all;
FEMALE (70 and over) - MARINA. Old, stalwart maid of the estate, has seen it all and held the estate together throughout the years;
FEMALE (20s to 30s) - SONIA. Serebriakoff’s simple, gentle, and homely daughter by his first marriage, has dedicated her life to the maintenance of the estate like her Uncle Vanya, attempts to keep peace in the family, in love with Dr. Astroff;
FEMALE (60s to 70s) - Widow of a privy councillor, mother of the first wife of the professor and Vanya, has an aura of old Russian regality;
MALE (30s to 50s) - WORKMAN. Salt-of-the-earth working-class employee of Vanya’s farm, actor also plays The Watchman.
The following roles have been CAST; performers will be considered as possible replacements—VANYA; SEREBRIAKOFF; TELEGIN (WAFFLES): MALE, 50s to70, impoverished landowner who lives on the estate as a caretaker, pock-marked, producers are seeking interesting character actors with texture, clown of the play, must play guitar.
