"The Lily's Revenge" Equity Principal Auditions

Theater company is holding Equity Principal Auditions for "The Lily's Revenge", a large-scale, special theatrical event from the creative mind of performer/writer Taylor Mac.

LORT D; $566/week minimum

SEEKING:

1.) FEMALE (18+; any ethnicity) - WHITE ROSE. The host. The White Rose is a character in the play, but she will also guide and interact with the audience during the intermissions. Fabulous, elegant, charismatic, can command the room firmly but with humor, gentility, friendliness and grace – as any good hostess can. Excellent improv skills required;

2.) FEMALES (40+; any ethnicity) - FLOWER GIRL DEITIES. The Flower Girl Deities were once young flower girls in a wedding story that never ended. Now they have spent their lives – and grown older – playing these roles. Ragged, trapped, desperate. Crazily, evangelically devoted to The Great Longing. They teeter on the edge of violence. Weddings turn them on;

3.) FEMALE (30's; any ethnicity) - SUSAN STEWART. Begins the play as one of the Flower Girl Deities (see above) but in her heart, she's a philosopher. As the play goes on, her true core is revealed: intelligent, insightful, strong-willed. The revelation of her intellect gives her the courage to fight;

4.) FEMALE (40+; any ethnicity) - TIME/WIND/STEPMOTHER. An ex-Matriarch. Time is the parent of The Great Longing, but she has lost control of her unruly child, who has trapped her and taken over the story. A Norma Desmond character: Time laments the loss of her former glory, but lacks the courage to fight for it back. She has been wronged, and she wants you to know it. She hides behind intellectual theory rather than confronting the chaos of her heart;

5.) MALE (40's; any ethnicity) - THE GREAT LONGING. The child of Time. Controls the story, since stealing it from his mother. Domineering, powerful, seductive. He will do whatever he needs to maintain power. Like a good dictator;

6.) FEMALE (late 30's; any ethnicity) - BRIDE DEITY. She hopes to be the Bride, and it may be her last chance. She is romantic, but practical. Friendly, open, honest, realistic. Loves flowers. Strong singing required;

7.) MALE (late 20's-early 40's; any ethnicity) - GROOM DEITY. A regular guy. A little defensive about that. Groom Deity must sing in doo-wop (in the style of Sam Cook);

8.) MALE (18+; any ethnicity) - MASTER SUNFLOWER. The wisest flower and the captain of the flower team. Inspiring but patient. A good leader, he knows when to wait and when to strike, when to provoke and when to lay in wait and keep the troops calm. A revolutionary. He knows right from wrong. He speaks in verse;

9.) MALE (18+; any ethnicity) - BABY'S BREATH. Second in command in the rebellion garden. More of a vigilante than Master Sunflower. Quick, fiery temper. Baby's Breath sits on a simmering pot of rage – a result of a lifetime of being pushed aside and regarded as an accessory rather than a beautiful flower in his own right. Ready for the fight. Speaks in verse;

10.) MALES & FEMALES (18+; any ethnicity) - THE FLOWER REVOLUTIONARIES. (Tulip, Poppy, Red Rose, Pansy, Lilac and others). The flowers in the garden, the foot soldiers for the flower rebellion. Outsiders. Wild. Gangly. Not like potted flowers or flowers in a neat, English garden. Passionate, of the earth, "the other". All speak in haiku;

11.) FEMALE (18+; any ethnicity) - BRIDE LOVE. The "dream ballet" version of the Bride Deity. Her ideal self. A happy bride. No reservations. Bride Love must be an actor/dancer;

12.) MALE (18+; any ethnicity) - GROOM LOVE. The "dream ballet" version of the Groom Deity. The Bride's ideal version of the Groom Deity. Loving. Confident. Manly. Gorgeous. Actor/Dancer;

13.) FEMALES (18+; any ethnicity) - FLOWER GIRLS LOVE. The "dream ballet" version of The Flower Girl Deities. Before they were trapped in the story and forced to perform it over and over again. Fresh and young, on their first day as flower girls. They just love to be in a wedding! Actor/Dancers;

14.) FEMALE (18+; any ethnicity) - DIRT. Time's other child. The God of Here and Now. Wise, helpful, and a force of empowerment for all those who meet her. She's there for you, but you have to look for her. She can't come to you.
