ROOSTER COGBURN: Jeff Bridges
LEBOEUF: Matt Damon
TOM CHANEY: Josh Brolin
About The Movie:
This will be Coen Brothers' remake of 1969 True Grit, the western film that earned John Wayne his Oscar. Jeff Bridges will take on Wayne's famous role as Cogburn, a man out for revenge. Matt Damon stars as the lawman (played by Glen Campbell in the original) who teams with Cogburn and a 14-year old girl to track her father's killer into hostile Indian territory. Josh Brolin will be the bad guy in the film, and is in talks to play the killer, (who was portrayed by Jeff Corey in the original).
SEEKING:
1.) MALE (35-60; Caucasian or African-American/Caribbean) - LUCKY NED PEPPER. Ugly, short and barrel chested, Lucky Ned is a notorious outlaw who almost resembles Yosemite Sam. He is a killer, a robber and a downright unpleasant fellow, though he does follow his own code of honor. Tom Chaney has been riding with his gang, and that leads Rooster and Mattie directly to Ned, who survives Rooster's initial assault and goes on
the run. LEAD;
2.) MALE (30-60s; Caucasian or African-American/Caribbean) - MR. GOUDY. This slick defense attorney takes Rooster apart on the witness stand, pointing out the sheer unlikeliness of his testimony, much to Rooster's increasing irritation;
3.) MALE (30-60s; Caucasian or African-American/Caribbean) - MR. BARLOW. This prosecuting attorney is questioning Rooster, his star witness, about a recent shooting. However, his slick opposing counsel, Mr. Goudy, casts serious doubt on Rooster's seriously doubtful testimony;
4.) MALE (30s-40s; Caucasian or African-American/Caribbean) - EMMETT QUINCY. This rough, nasty member of Ned Pepper's gang of outlaws is bad to the bone and looks it. Taken unawares by Rooster and handcuffed in a wilderness dugout, Emmett and his wounded cohort, Moon, are grilled by Rooster for information. Emmett refuses to talk, and when Moon starts to, Emmett shuts him up permanently - and is himself shot dead by Rooster;
5.) MALE (20s; Caucasian or African-American/Caribbean) - MOON. This nervous, hapless young outlaw looks like a kid too young to die, and when his leg is wounded by Rooster, he fears it will mortify and be amputated. A member of Ned Pepper's gang, he's about to tell Rooster where Ned is hiding out. But rather than let him spill his guts, his accomplice, Quincy, spills Moon's guts in the most literal sense;
6.) MALE (40s-50s; African-American) - YARNELL. This middle-aged African American man is the Ross family's trusted old retainer, who has been sent to "chap-a-rone" young Mattie while she recovers her father's corpse for burial. He's leery when Mattie sends him back home without her, but he obeys his strong-willed young mistress;
7.) MALE (30s-40s; Caucasian) - UNDERTAKER. This grizzled, severely dressed Irish undertaker, who speaks with a pronounced brogue, shows Mattie her father's corpse. He allows Mattie to bed down in his funeral parlor overnight, but warns her that she might have plenty of company - none of them living;
8.) MALE (40s-50s; Caucasian) - SHERIFF. The classic town sheriff, this mustachioed Western lawman who looks the part (though not in a cartoony sense) officiates at a hanging. He later tells Mattie that Tom Chaney lit out for Indian territory, beyond his jurisdiction. He fills Mattie in on which U.S. marshals may be available to help her in her quest. 8 speeches & 2 lines, 2 scenes;
9.) MALE (20s; Caucasian or African-American/Caribbean) - IDIOT/HAROLD. One of Ned Pepper's gang, this retarded youth clucks and cackles like an animal whenever he's addressed. He is slain in the final showdown with Rooster. 4 lines, 3 scenes
