"Single In Harlem": A New Online Video Fictional Reality Show
Executive Producer: Thomas Lopez-Pierre
Casting Director: Anthony Bronston
Compensation: Pay is to be negotiated ($1,000 or more). The plan is to be picked up by a cable network.
About The Contest:
Set in the Harlem section of Manhattan, Single In Harlem is an online video fictional reality show scheduled to be broadcasted on in the Summer of 2010 that centers around the lives of four Ivy-league college friends who are young, sexy and single (African-American, Hispanic, Jewish, Asian).
The series begins with the friends who are in their late twenties, sitting around a table at an outdoor restaurant, sipping cosmopolitans, celebrating their plans of working together to establish a real estate investment fund in Harlem. They join forces to hedge against a sexist, male dominate old boy business network in Harlem that does not take them seriously. These men of power are quick to return their calls with offers to discuss their business proposals over dinner, drinks and dancing.
The series will be smart, provocative and controversial. The series will have you laughing with recognition of people, places and things while fundamentally changing the way you view the lives of the professional classes in Harlem. Their stories will provide revealing insights into how these women plan to navigate the complex terrain of class, gender and race in Harlem.
The women first met six years ago at a fundraiser at the Studio Museum of Harlem. As one of the few men and women in attendance without dates, they were placed at the same table with two men (of which one was outright gay in his hot pink shirt). Each of the four women and the gay guy had their eye on the same man, an African-American investment banker with an MBA from Harvard University. By the end of the night, he would ask one of the women for her phone number. During the evening, the three women quickly learned that they each would be attending graduate school at Colombia University.
Although a fictional reality show, the weekly ten minute video series will offer upscale Harlem businesses frequent opportunities to be showcased. Over the last 5 years, thousands of professionals have moved into Harlem. Unfortunately, most are unaware of the scores of businesses that serve their lifestyle needs. The underlying focus of the series other than to entertain is to help promote upscale Harlem businesses.
The personalities of the these four women are an example in contrast: a African-American lawyer that most would say is an elitist snob who is unable to "find a man on her level to date", a Hispanic real estate broker who likes to date more than three men at a time, a Jewish mortgage banker who is a free spirited, bi-sexual feminist and a Asian architect who is stressed out because her parents want her to find a good Asian boy to marry and have lots of children (unknown to her parents, she is in a serious relationship with an African-American, investment banker that she met at the Studio Museum of Harlem).
Each episode will begin with their Sunday ritual of having brunch at a different local restaurant before launching a shopping trip that leaves no store unexplored. During which they will also use this time to keep each other updated on the different facets of their professional and personal lives, especially the drama that is their love lives.
